Research

I’ve been in Mexico for the past three weeks, researching the 3rd Court Gentry book, Ballistic, which will come out next year. I flew into Puerto Vallarta, went up the Nayarit Coast to San Blas, through the Sierra Madres and Jalisco Tequila country, went to Guadalajara for a few days, and then spent a week in Mexico City.

I got certified as an Open Water SCUBA diver, hung out with 13-foot long crocodiles in a mangrove swamp, went into Sinoloan Cartel territory, projectile vomited in public (that was not in the name of research- I blame a bad pineaple and some injested seawater), visited the best museum of anthropology in the Americas, interviewed a former Mexican soldier who’d fought the narcos in Juarez, walked 12 miles a day along the Paseo de la Reforma and the back streets of the D.F., and got hundreds of notes, pictures, and ideas for book 3. I wrote about 15,000 words while there, meaning I’ve got another 100,000 words to write in the next few months.

Here is a link to some of my more “touristy” photos. I have some more research pictures that would not be that interesting- light poles, staircases, bugs, that sort of thing.

Mexico is an amazing place- I hope my book does it justice.
